Mushroom remediation
Research indicates that spent substrate from mushrooms offers reusability and low cost while overcoming limitations found in conventional bioremediation methods (Sutherland and Venkobachar., 2013). The technology allows for the removal of heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and TNT from water sources before they reach public collections. A specific project by the Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition demonstrates this application in real-world settings like soil spillages (Darwish, 2021). Figure 5 illustrates emerging applications including small-scale oil contamination treatment (Mycoremediation as a Potentially Promising Technology: Current Status and Prospects—A Review). This approach is noted for being eco-friendly compared to traditional methods.
