The Key's Whisper
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dark drawer, the old brass key dreams of doors it has never opened. It remembers the turn in the rusted lock, the click that meant welcome or farewell. Now it lies beside mismatched socks and a broken watch, listening to the house settle. The key whispers to the dust motes: I still know the shape of trust. Outside, the moon slides across the floor like a silent visitor, and for a moment, the key feels the weight of a hand that is no longer there.
