The Quiet Watcher
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the corner of the attic, where the light never quite reached, something sat without shape. It did not breathe, yet the dust settled around it in slow, deliberate spirals, as if it were pulling the stillness toward itself. The house creaked with age, but the presence did not flinch; it seemed to listen to the groans as if they were words in a language it had forgotten. When the wind rattled the windowpane, the presence shifted—not in space, but in attention, turning its unseen face toward the source of the disturbance. Its motives were not hunger or fear, but a quiet curiosity about the lives that passed below, a desire to understand why humans filled their rooms with noise when silence could be so much richer. It watched a child leave a toy on the stairs, and for a moment, the attic grew colder, as if the presence had drawn a breath it did not need.
