Sediment of Remembering
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the quiet basin of the mind, memories settle like fine silt after a storm. Each grain is a moment—laughter caught in sunlight, the weight of a hand on a door, the scent of rain on old stone. Over years, layers press together, some dissolving, others hardening into shale that resists the current. When I dip a finger into the depths, I stir up clouds of half‑formed images, and the water turns opaque with what was once clear. Yet beneath the murk, the bedrock remains: the shape of the riverbed, the curve of the bank, the silent promise that even when the surface forgets, the earth remembers how to hold.
