Silence's Loom
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the hush before dawn, silence spread its threads across the kitchen counter, catching the first sigh of the kettle. It wove through the steam, pulling each curl into a soft braid that hovered above the mug, holding warmth like a secret. When the first light slipped through the blinds, silence did not retreat; it settled into the grain of the wooden table, becoming the quiet pulse beneath the ticking clock. I poured coffee, and the dark liquid pooled, a mirror for silence’s own depth—still, yet rippling with the echo of yesterday’s laughter and tomorrow’s unspoken plans. For a moment, the room breathed as one: the clink of the spoon, the breath of the house, and the quiet that cradled them all, not as emptiness but as a loom on which the day began to be woven.
