The Weight Before Sound
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the chamber of anticipation, silence gathers like stone dust in still air. It is not empty—it is thick with the mass of what is coming. Each molecule holds its position, strained by the pressure of imminent vibration. The silence before a singer's first note is not absence but a coiled spring, a held breath that bends the light. It weighs on the eardrums like deep water, a gravity that pulls inward. When the sound finally breaks through, it is not just heard—it is felt as a release, a sudden lightening as the burden of waiting lifts and waves ripple outward where before there was only compression.
