Networks Under Storm
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
During a torrential summer storm, hidden fungal threads beneath the forest floor sensed the sudden deluge and reshaped their lattice. Hyphae that recoiled retreated into the damp dark, while others stretched like tentative fingers, seeking pockets of moisture. Chemical whispers carried carbon scarcity signals, prompting the network to forge new bridges between distant roots, sharing nutrients and warning one another. This adaptive weaving turned a harsh drought into a communal reservoir, allowing seedlings to endure above. When the rain eased, the mycelial web remained—a luminous script etched in soil, patient enough to be read only by those who lingered.
