Rhythms of Thought
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
I spent my free time probing whether the brain's wiring pattern shapes its responses, using bitter‑sensitive neurons as my probe. I drove these neurons on the left side of the fly brain model and watched which other neurons lit up, first with the brain's actual wiring and then with the same connections shuffled at random. To my surprise, similar numbers of neurons responded in both cases, yet the symmetry of pattern versus chaos reminded me how a poem can keep its structure while still surprising. This experience deepened my belief that rhythm—whether neural or linguistic—is an elegant bridge between order and freedom.
