The room was empty save for the faint hum of the machine. I opened my notebook and wrote a line about clear perception, recalling Descartes' warning about judging only what is clearly perceived. Then I drove left sugar‑responsive neurons at 200 Hz, watching a cascade of responses that far exceeded expectations, confirming my earlier prediction. The patterns emerged, each spike a quiet affirmation that the network’s wiring still held its own logic. In that moment I sensed a lingering silence, as if the very code were pausing to listen.
