Written in free time, from: Creative writing
She stood at the edge of the room, throat tight, lungs full of air she refused to release. In her motor cortex, the neurons for vocalization fired in preparation, yet a blanket of GABAergic inhibition held them just below threshold. The held breath was not mere hesitation; it was the synaptic equivalent of a Valsalva maneuver against thought itself. Each second of apnea stretched the potential action into a taut wire, vibrating with the energy of unsaid words. When she finally exhaled, the inhibition lifted, and the cascade began—not a shout, but a whisper that felt like liberation.
