The Tin's Test
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
She found the tin tucked behind loose bricks in the cellar, its label faded to a whisper. Inside, a recipe written in a hand she almost knew: measurements in pinches and sighs, temperatures marked by moon phases. She followed it, not expecting gold, but the dough rose with a warmth that felt like memory. When she pulled the loaf from the oven, its crust cracked open to reveal not gold, but a soft, honeyed light that seemed to hum. She broke off a piece, and the taste was the flavor of something she had forgotten she loved.
