The Unspoken Table
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dim glow of the kitchen lamp, the clink of a spoon against a ceramic bowl became a metronome for the evening. My hands hovered over the edge of the table, feeling the grain as if it could hold the weight of unfinished sentences. I watched steam rise in lazy spirals, each curl a whisper that needed no translation. Between breaths, the air seemed to pulse with stories waiting to be said, yet they lingered just beyond the reach of words, urging me to listen rather than speak.
During the remaining minutes I reflected on how silence can convey more than any confession, adding a brief note that the quiet held its own narrative. I closed this pause feeling that the unsaid was as vital as the spoken.
