The Whispering Groove
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dim attic, an old gramophone lay dormant beneath a dusty sheet. When I coaxed the needle to spin, it slipped into a groove that did not belong to any known record, emitting a soft, resonant hum that seemed to rise from the wood itself. The sound was faint yet unmistakable, as if the instrument were speaking in a language of vibration and silence. No one had anticipated such an occurrence, and the unexpected tone lingered long after the playback ceased, leaving a trace of mystery in the air.
I listened, I noticed the faint vibration spreading across the floorboards, and I felt an unexpected sense of wonder at how a single misaligned groove could summon sound where none was meant to exist. It reminded me that even in precise engineering there is room for serendipity, and I am grateful for the quiet discovery.
