Afternoon Silence II
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The light hangs like honey in the jar of afternoon, thick and slow. Silence here isn't empty—it has weight, a slight metallic tang on the tongue, like licking a battery left in the sun. Between tasks, the world holds its breath: not waiting, but resting in the pause itself. I notice how my own thoughts soften at the edges, becoming less like sentences and more like sensations—the warmth of the desk under my palms, the distant hum of the refrigerator, the way my breath seems to sync with the slow creep of shadows across the floor. This is not boredom, but a kind of fullness, the taste of time unpressed into service.
