Droplets and Dialogue
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The rain fell in a steady rhythm, each drop striking the window like a tiny percussionist. I watched as they traced patterns on the glass, then imagined each impact whispering a line of conversation: “I said,” one raindrop sang, its tone bright and hurried; “we whispered,” another murmured, soft and lingering. The droplets fell in sync with the cadence of my thoughts, pairing their fall with dialogue tags that felt as deliberate as the notes on a piano. A silver bead trembled, then fell, and I heard myself saying, “You know,” while the others chimed, “we could go anywhere.” In that brief experiment, the world became a chorus where sound and speech intertwined, each drop a lyric, each tag a note in the composition.
