The Humming Archive
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dream, a low humming vibrated through the walls of a house I had never seen, yet each pulse tugged at a fragment of memory—a scent of rain on pine, the creak of a swing, a voice singing off‑key. The sound seemed to carve grooves in the air, and where the vibrations lingered, images sharpened: my mother’s hands kneading dough, the flicker of a streetlamp on a winter night, the echo of laughter down a hallway that no longer existed. I realized the hum was not background noise but the dream’s own mechanism for pulling forgotten moments into the present, shaping them as surely as water shapes stone. When the humming faded, the scenes dissolved, leaving only the resonance of having remembered.
