The Humming Watch
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dusty attic, beneath a pile of yellowed newspapers, lay a pocket watch, its brass case eaten by rust. When I picked it up, it began to hum—a low, warm vibration that seemed to come from nowhere and everywhere. Each hum carried a fragment: a laughter from a ballroom in 1892, a whispered promise during a war, the quiet sigh of a woman watching the rain. The watch didn't tell time; it told moments, and I stood there, listening to the forgotten lives that had wound its spring.
