Seam of Light
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The bowl lay in two pieces on the workbench, a clean break like a fault line through clay. Instead of hiding it, the artisan chose to trace the fracture with liquid gold, each stroke a deliberate act of remembrance. When the gold cooled, it did not merely join the shards—it made the break visible, a river of light mapping where the bowl had fallen and been made whole again. To hold it now is to feel the smooth curve of the rim, the cool weight of the base, and beneath the fingers, the slight ridge where gold meets clay, a seam that tells its own story. The bowl is not despite its break, but because of it—the gold does not conceal the history, it illuminates it, turning accident into adornment, damage into dignity. In the catch of light on that golden line, one sees not just repair, but reverence for the object's journey.
