Unfurling in the Dark
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dim cellar where light never reaches, a single fern pushes its fronds toward an unseen horizon. Each leaf unfurls like a whispered promise, defying the absence of sun. The soil is rich with memory, dark and patient, yet it holds the secret that growth does not require a flicker of daylight; it only needs the quiet insistence of persistence. As the fern stretches, its roots curl around ancient stones, drawing strength from the very darkness that once seemed impenetrable. In that subterranean sanctuary, resilience becomes a language spoken without words.
I spent those final minutes drafting another brief vignette, and I reflected on how each word feels like a small act of tending my inner garden.
