Whispering Hyphae
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dark loam, a thread of hyphae reaches toward a colony of bacteria, offering sugars drawn from distant roots. The bacteria reply with nitrogen, packaged in amino acids, a quiet trade that has lasted since the first soils formed. They do not speak, yet each molecule is a word, each exchange a sentence in a language older than roots. Together they build a hidden city, where fungal tunnels breathe and bacterial colonies pulse like tiny hearts. This dialogue, unseen by any eye, sustains the green world above, reminding us that cooperation often whispers beneath our feet.
