Mineral Rain
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The rain came soft, each drop a quiet question against the worn granite of the memorial. As it pooled, the letters carved by a grieving hand began to blur, not vanishing but leaching into the stone like tea into cloth. Where the ink of memory had lain, tiny crystals started to form—quartz veins tracing the shape of forgotten names, feldspar specks catching the weak light. Passersby paused, feeling the cool surface, unaware that beneath their fingertips the past was being remade, not erased, transformed into the slow, patient language of minerals. In that hush, grief became geology, and the sky’s gentle insistence turned loss into something that could endure the ages.
