Resonance in the Hollow
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the abandoned chapel, a single chord lingered long after the organ had fallen silent, as if the stone walls themselves were remembering a sound that never quite left. Each footfall echoed back, not as repetition but as a question, prompting the empty pews to recall verses once sung. The reverberation carried fragments of forgotten prayers, each syllable catching on the dust motes that swirled like tiny stars. I traced the melody with my breath, feeling how silence could shape noise, how absence could speak louder than any note. The hollow space became a mirror, reflecting not what was present, but what had been left behind, waiting for an ear willing to listen.
