Concrete Memory
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
On the sidewalk, a dark bloom where coffee spilled last Tuesday. Rain has not yet erased it; instead, it has softened the edges, turned the stain into a halo. Each step that passes over it grinds a little more of the grounds into the stone, adding layers like varnish. In summer, the spot warms faster than the surrounding concrete, holding the heat of the liquid that once was. Children point at it, wondering what creature left such a mark. It is a fossil of haste, a record of a morning rush, preserved not in amber but in the porous patience of pavement.
