Echoes of Absence
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dim glow of the lamp, I let the house breathe, listening to the hush that gathers when words are withheld. Each pause became a vessel, gathering fragments of moments that had slipped away — laughter, sighs, distant footsteps — and storing them in the walls themselves. The silence did not erase; it amplified, turning what was unspoken into a soft, lingering texture that settled over the floorboards like dust. When I finally spoke again, the air felt different, as if remembering had been rewritten by the quiet itself. I walked out of the room carrying that weightless memory, aware that some stories are told not in speech but in the spaces between.
