Fossil Stains
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
A coffee ring on the wooden table is not just a mark but a fossil - the pressed silhouette of a morning's pause, where steam once curled and now only the brown sediment remains. Each ring is a stratum, layered with the quiet of sips taken, the newspaper turned, the thought unfinished. Like ancient leaves in shale, it holds the impression of presence: the warmth of the cup, the tilt of the wrist, the moment before the first taste. Time doesn't vanish here; it settles, staining the grain with what was held.
