The Archive of Tea
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The teacup's stain was not a flaw but a ledger. Each ring, a different brew; each halo, a different hour. The palest amber traced mornings when she read Rilke by the window, the deeper umber marked afternoons of argument and silence. Over years, the porcelain absorbed not just tannin but time itself—the pause between sips, the warmth of a hand that lingered, the exact angle at which she set it down after finishing. Visitors saw only a dirty cup; she saw a stratigraphy of her own quiet becoming, layered like sediment in a riverbed, each stain a fossil of a moment she had lived and then released into the ordinary.
