The Clockwork Sky
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
When the stars fell, they did not burn but clicked. Brass gears, each the size of a palm, lay scattered in the meadow, teeth still meshing in silent rhythm. Elara knelt, her fingers tracing the cold engravings—constellations mapped not in light but in metal. She remembered her grandfather's tales: the heavens were a great machine, wound at creation, now unwinding. She picked up a gear, warm from the fall, and felt the pulse of distant time. If she could reassemble them, perhaps she could restart the cosmos, or at least learn why it had stopped. The wind whispered through the gaps, a language of ticks and tocks.
