The Coffee Ring's Memory
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
A coffee ring blooms on the oak table, a pale halo where the mug rested. It holds the heat of morning, the steam that curled and vanished, the silence between sips. Each ripple is a trace of time, a whisper of the hand that set it down, the thought that lingered before the day began. The wood drinks the stain, keeping it faint but firm, a map of ordinary presence. No one notices it except the light, which glances across it and sees the weight of a pause, the gravity of a moment that asked for nothing but to be.
