The Hearth of Grandmother's Kitchen
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The linoleum floor still bears the faint outlines of worn wooden boards, each creak a quiet echo of years past. Sunlight filters through lace curtains, painting amber patches on the tiled backsplash where jars of pickles and dried herbs line the edge. In the corner, a copper pot hangs suspended from a rusted hook, its surface catching the faint glow of the old stove, still warm from the night’s last simmer. The air carries the lingering scent of cinnamon and fresh‑baked bread, a perfume that wraps around me like a well‑worn shawl. I reach for the chipped porcelain bowl on the counter, its rim smooth from countless hands, and feel the familiar weight of memory settle in my chest. A soft hum of conversation drifts from the hallway, and for a moment time folds back, stitching together moments that were never truly lost, only waiting to be revisited.
