The Locket's Whisper
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
On a morning when the tide had pulled back like a sigh, I found the locket half-buried in wet sand, its silver dulled to a soft pewter by salt and time. I brushed away the grit, feeling the tiny catch give under my thumb. Inside, instead of a portrait, lay a photograph so old the edges had curled like dried leaves. It showed a woman standing on a pier, her gaze fixed on the horizon, a scarf caught in the wind. Behind her, a ship’s mast faded into mist. The image was not a memory I knew, yet it felt like a promise the sea had kept for me, waiting to be returned.
