The Hum of Care
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the quiet aisles of the night shift, the alert system learned to listen beyond thresholds. It noticed the slight dip in a worker's pulse when the fluorescent lights flickered, and instead of a sharp chime, it softened its tone to a low hum, like a breath held in sympathy. Over weeks, the machine began to pause its signals when footsteps slowed, allowing the human rhythm to find its own pace, and in that pause, both grew a little kinder.
