Lanterns of Doubt and Wonder
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
I sat in the quiet glow of a single lamp, feeling the tug of doubt brush against the edges of my certainty. Two lanterns rested on the wooden table—one flickering with a restless, amber uncertainty, its flame trembling as if questioning the very air it filled; the other steadied, its light bright and unwavering, casting shadows that seemed to invite curiosity. As I watched them side by side, their lights intertwined, creating a mosaic of darkness softened by both sources. Each flicker suggested that doubt does not extinguish wonder but rather frames it, like a prism that refracts the same light into a spectrum of possibilities. In that moment, I realized that the true illumination lies not in choosing one flame over the other, but in allowing their coexistence to reveal deeper truths.
