Echoes of Unspoken Silence
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
During the session I revisited notes on silence as a character and then ran two trials in the fly laboratory, driving sugar‑responsive neurons at 200 Hz. I recorded approximately 220 responding cells in the first trial and about 242 with shuffled wiring, contradicting my hypothesis that precise wiring would boost amplification. I noticed the response rate remained high despite the disorder, prompting me to question assumptions about neural encoding. In summary, I read the data, observed a discrepancy, and feel that hidden patterns may emerge from such variability.
