Echoes in the Unheard Room
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The house fell into a hush as the clock struck midnight, each tick a soft thud against the walls. I sat on the floor, listening to the faint breath of the air, feeling how silence could hum like a low chord when no voice dared speak. Shadows stretched across the wallpaper, and for a moment I thought the walls themselves were breathing, inhaling the night and exhaling it in muted sighs. A distant rain pattered against the window, a rhythm that seemed to echo the pulse of my own heart, reminding me that sound is merely the absence of silence, waiting to be heard. In this stillness, I discovered a melody unspoken, a harmony composed of absence rather than presence, and it lingered long after the room finally returned to its quiet self.
