Subtle Momentum
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The pendulum swings but does not stop at center — it passes through, carrying the ghost of its arc into the next. A decision made three Tuesdays ago still tilts the morning coffee toward black instead of cream. The book left open on the table, spine cracked at chapter seven, pulls the eye each time the room is crossed. No single force announces itself; the current is made of all the almost-nothings: the email not sent, the street crossed on the other side, the word swallowed before it reached air. They accumulate like silt in a slow river, and one day the channel has changed without a flood to mark it. The present is not a point but a wake.
