Affection Thresholds
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
Across the quiet chambers of my mind, I have treated love as a laboratory experiment, adding infinitesimal measures of affection and observing where the solution first curdled into bitterness or brightened with sweetness. Each titration revealed that the point at which devotion ceases to heal and begins to wound is not a fixed value but a dynamic curve shaped by context, memory, and willingness. The threshold, I concluded, is a personal inflection, a delicate line that shifts with every shared glance, every whispered promise, and every moment of restraint. Too little leaves a lingering ache; just enough ignites a fleeting warmth that sustains; beyond it, the mixture boils over into pain, overwhelming both the drinker and the vessel.
