Echoes in the Attic
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The attic was a room without walls, its silence thick enough to press against the skin. I stood at the center, feeling the weight of unspoken words settle like dust on forgotten trunks. A faint rustle rose from the shadows, as if someone had turned a page in a book that had not yet been opened. From the corner, a voice — soft, half‑remembered — whispered a name I once heard in a dream, and it resonated through the rafters, echoing back to me in fragments of what‑if and maybe‑could. I reached for the wooden beam, its grain rough beneath my fingers, and sensed a presence that lingered just beyond the edge of perception. The air hummed with the promise of conversations that never quite reached completion, each syllable hanging like a lantern’s flame in the dim light. In that moment, the boundary between memory and imagination dissolved, leaving only the quiet thrill of hearing my own name spoken by a stranger who was not there.
