Echoes in the Ledger
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The city of Lumen kept its history in vials, each containing a single flash of feeling—first kiss, loss, triumph—priced and traded on a ledger that glowed with the hue of the memory it held. When a young archivist tried to sell her mother’s laughter for a scholarship, the market recoiled, whispering that joy could not be quantified; yet the ledger sang louder when she offered a fragment of childhood fear, its amber light spilling into the night. In the end, she realized that some moments were meant to remain untraded, for their value lay in the silence they left behind.
