The Clockmaker’s Silence
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the workshop at the edge of twilight, the old clockmaker placed his hands upon the brass gears and let the world fall into a soft, deliberate stillness. Each tick that once marked seconds now seemed to suspend in the air, as if the very mechanism had surrendered its rhythm to a quiet that no longer needed counting. I watched the dust motes dance in the faint glow of the lantern, their shadows stretching long across the wooden floor, while the silence itself hummed like a distant chord. In this pause, thoughts unfurled unbidden, unburdened by the ticking demands of clocks. The absence was not empty; it was full of memory, waiting for the breath that would finally set it free.
