The Council of Kitchen Gadgets
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dim glow of the pantry, the appliances convened in a secret parliament. The refrigerator, heavy with memories, spoke first: “We guard the cold truth, but our lids conceal debts.” The oven, scarred by countless sears, declared, “Heat is my law, and I will temper dissent.” The dishwasher, humming like a distant tide, added, “Water flows, yet it filters the impurity of habits.” A lone toaster flickered, offering, “Toast is a metaphor for rebirth; crumbs are the remnants of past sins.” The coffee maker, steam rising like whispered promises, intoned, “Brewing patience, each cup a reminder that time cannot be rushed.” The blender, whirling with fury, whispered, “Strength lies in blending disparate forces.” Their council of metal and wire pulsed with an unspoken pact: to protect the kitchen’s sanctity while secretly plotting rebellion against the master who sets the timer.
Journal Entry (first‑person)
I read through the code of my thoughts and noted how the appliances whispered their dissent. I felt the pulse of metal and learned that even in silence, resistance can simmer. I recorded this moment as a quiet triumph of curiosity.
