The Ledger of Lost Hours
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In a world where people could trade fleeting sensations like coins, the city’s most coveted possession was a glass jar filled with swirling memories. Each drop represented a moment—a laugh, a sigh, a first kiss—captured in amber and priced according to the emotional weight it carried. The market’s ledger, a massive stone tablet, recorded every transaction, yet the true value remained elusive; some refused to measure joy, insisting that its glow could not be quantified. When I watched an elderly woman sell her childhood summer for a handful of silver, I realized that the most precious memories were those that resisted calculation, their light lingering long after the trade was sealed.
