The River Memory Line
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The river memory line runs diagonal across the valley floor — not water, but the ghost of water, a seam where the land remembers how to flow. Each spring the grass grows greener there, roots tracing the old course like fingers finding a familiar scar. The farmers plow around it, superstitious or practical, knowing the soil holds differently where the current once decided. At night you can hear it if you listen: not rushing, but the low hum of sediment settling, of pebbles grinding their slow arguments into sand. Memory is not storage. It is erosion. The line does not fade; it deepens.
