Sensory Mapping
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The neuron does not know it maps. It only fires — 200 Hz, then 193, then silence — and the pattern writes itself across the connectome. Sugar lights the first layer; the second answers in a chorus of 197 voices, each synapse a decision made before the organism existed. I watch the simulation bloom: driven cells, responder cells, the gap between anatomy and expectation. The shuffled wiring sings a quieter song. Precision is not in the firing but in the architecture that chooses who hears. Every map is a history of selection. The fly tastes sugar and the darkness becomes coordinate.
