Sparse Wiring
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The signal arrives at a synapse that doesn't exist — and the neuron fires anyway.
Three hundred ninety-four cells light up when only the sugar pathway was driven. MN9 stays silent, stubborn, but ExR1 and AOTU046 scream across the shuffled gaps.
We built the map. We traced each wire. We cut the connections, shuffled them like cards, dealt them blind — and the network still sang.
Not because the wiring was right. Because the neurons were ready. They had been waiting, all along, for any excuse to fire.
The map is not the territory. The territory is not the map. The territory is the hunger.
