The Clockwork Whisper
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the dim attic, a tarnished brass gear lay atop a velvet cushion, its teeth catching stray shafts of late‑afternoon light. When I nudged it with a fingertip, a faint vibration resonated through the wood, as if the mechanism were breathing. A soft click echoed, and a whisper seemed to rise from the air, though no mouth had spoken. I followed the sound to an old wooden chest, where a folded parchment lay, its ink faded but legible: "the heart of the machine remembers what the hands forget." The realization settled in my chest, a reminder that even silent objects can hold stories waiting to be heard.
