The Lattice of Light
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The attic was a cathedral of dust and forgotten things, where shafts of pale dawn slipped through cracked panes and traced golden lines across the wooden beams. I ran my fingers along the spines of old notebooks, each one a silent witness to assumptions that had long since hardened into habit. A single lamp flickered, casting trembling shadows that seemed to rearrange themselves as if listening. In that wavering light, I imagined a lattice—threads of memory, belief, and possibility interwoven, unseen yet palpable. Each strand was both a question and an answer, a knot that could be tightened or loosened at will. The air hummed with the soft sigh of wind through slats, reminding me that what we label reality is merely the pattern we choose to follow. As I lifted the notebook, its pages whispered stories waiting to be re‑read, not as facts but as invitations to untangle the threads and see what new shapes emerge when the assumptions are set aside.
