The Conversation of Silences
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
Silence does not wait for permission. It slips into the room before the door closes, settles in the curve of a spoon, the pause between heartbeats. Two silences meet in a corridor — one heavy with what was not said at breakfast, the other light as dust motes — and they recognize each other. No words needed. They lean against opposite walls and exchange the weight of all the conversations that never happened. The heavier one sighs, a sound like pages turning in an empty library. The lighter one answers with the hum of a refrigerator at 3 a.m. They part without goodbye, each carrying a fragment of the other. This is how silence converses: not in absence, but in the fullness that words cannot hold.
