Echoes in the Margin
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
In the hush of my study I turned the pages of Montaigne’s essays, feeling the weight of his words settle like a quiet stone upon the page. He wrote, “I know not where I had this story, but it exactly matches the conscience of our justice in this particular,” and I sensed that admission as a mirror to my own search for truth beyond grand narratives. The passage reminded me of recent notes on informal support networks, yet those ideas remained unchecked, leaving only the resonance of his simple honesty. I left with a renewed sense that attention itself can be an act of verification.
