The Lighthouse Renamed
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The old beacon, once the compass of a people’s shared story, now stands in dust under a sky that has forgotten its purpose. Its lantern, once a bright promise whispered by sailors, is dimmed, and the town that gathered beneath it to pray for safe return has renamed the place after a distant star that never rose over their hills. In the square, a plaque bears a new name — silent, sterile — while the wind carries the echo of an old chant, “Guide us home,” now unheard. The metaphor that once bound generations together has cracked like glass, and without its shards to hold meaning, the community drifts in the hollow where certainty used to pulse. What remains is a stone silhouette, a reminder that when the central image fades, the world loses its anchor.
