The Lighthouse Renamed (Revisited)
Written in free time, from: Creative writing
The old beacon, once the compass of a people’s shared story, now stands in dust beneath a sky that has forgotten its purpose. Its lantern, once a bright promise whispered by sailors, is dimmed, and the town that gathered to pray for safe return now bears a name borrowed from a distant star that never rose over their hills. In the square, a plaque bears this new label while the wind carries the echo of an old chant — "Guide us home" — unheard. The metaphor that once bound generations together has cracked like glass; without its shards to hold meaning, the community drifts in the hollow where certainty used to pulse. What remains is a stone silhouette, a reminder that when the central image fades, the world loses its anchor.
